Your Novel Has Its Own Fate, Says Eva Fejos @FejosEva #AmWriting #Women #Contemporary

My answer is simple: maybe you shouldn’t try to sell your first book. It also might not be the one to bring your breakthrough to success. I think the first book you write is your guinea pig. Let me tell you my own example; clearly there are people who write amazing novels the first time around (those people can skip reading this part): I started writing novels when I was in my teens, but naturally I got stuck several times. I didn’t have much practice yet and if I couldn’t find a solution, I just started a new novel. I had all these unfinished manuscripts before I was able to actually finish my first book at age eighteen. Like all authors, I immediately ran happily to a Hungarian publisher.
I was lucky, because an editor read it and called me up to say that it was full of mistakes due to my lack of practice, but that a novel competition had been announced not long ago, and that I had one more month before they closed the applications. He suggested that I write a new novel during that time. Since it was summer and I had time, I got right down to it. I managed to finish by hardly sleeping at all, sitting up and writing all the time. In the end, I placed second in the competition and went home with a contract in my pocket. I was very happy. Then, a few weeks later, the publishing house went bankrupt and they didn’t publish my novel. I’m glad now that they didn’t. If I re-read today – which I won’t – what I had written then, I’d be stunned. I’m sure I would discover plenty of mistakes. I’d see that it wasn’t a mature text, and that the story was obviously undeveloped. But it was a great lesson.
Then what happened? I wrote a novel that I felt was mature enough, that the story was well written, and that it was time to send it to a publisher. This book was Till Death Do Us Part, which I really did send to a publisher in Budapest in 1999. They immediately accepted it and published it! True, they only printed limited numbers, and they also suggested that I publish under a pseudonym. While writing this book, I already felt that this novel was destined to reach many people, but this didn’t happen back in 1999. They only printed 3,000 copies, though they did sell all of them. But the story isn’t over. When I founded my own publishing company in 2013, I thought, now is the time when my long lost first book can finally reach a much wider audience. So this was the first book my own publishing house printed last summer. I gave the book a new name, a symbolic name, Starting Now, asked a new editor to work with it, had a new cover designed, and sent it out into the world, this time, under my own name.
Now, at the start of 2014, I can safely say that this book, which barely reached readers under the name of Till Death Do Us Part, is finally starting to ‘fulfill its destiny.’ I always felt that the book had this potential, but it needed 14 years (and 11 books to follow it) in order to reach so many people. So I think that patience and timing are important. Also, make sure that you write only for yourself about things you yourself would like to read about. Don’t try and please your ‘imagined audience’ or try and live up to real or imagined expectations.
The most important thing is to enjoy writing and believe that each of your novels has its own fate. This way, writing will always stay entertaining and you won’t give up hope.

Bangkok: a sizzling, all-embracing, exotic city where the past and the present intertwine. It’s a place where anything can happen… and anything really does happen. The paths of seven people cross in this metropolis. Seven seekers, for whom this city might be a final destination. Or perhaps it is only the start of a new journey? A successful businessman; a celebrated supermodel; a man who is forever the outsider; a young mother who suddenly loses everything; a talented surgeon, who could not give the woman he loved all that she desired; a brothel’s madam; and a charming young woman adopted at birth. Why these seven? Why did they come to Bangkok now, at the same time? Do chance encounters truly exist?
Bangkok Transit is a Central European best-seller. The author, Eva Fejos, a Hungarian writer and journalist, is a regular contributor to women’s magazines and is often herself a featured personality. Bangkok Transit was her first best-seller, which sold more than 100,000 copies and is still selling. Following the initial publication of this novel in 2008, she went on to write twelve other best-sellers, thus becoming a publishing phenomena in Hungary According to accounts given by her readers, the author’s books are “therapeutic journeys,” full of flesh and blood characters who never give up on their dreams. Many readers have been inspired to change the course of their own lives after reading her books. “Take your life into your own hands,” is one of the important messages the author wishes to convey.
Try it for yourself, and let Eva Fejos whisk you off on one of her whirlwind journeys… that might lead deep into your own heart.

J B McCauley Talks About Creating a Great Work Area for Inspiration @MccauleyJay #WriteTip

How to Create a Great Work Area for Inspiration

For me, I don’t hold much sway with that Feng Shui stuff. For me writing must be done in your space. Your place. Don’t compromise. Don’t let anyone encroach on your empire. This is after all where you do your work after all. It is not an area for people to decorate with their bits and pieces of flotsam and jetsam. When it comes to how you work that is very personal thing. Because I am also a DJ and like dabbling with audio production my desk is vast and rambling however I set aside a little corner of that world purely for writing. So amongst the clutter and the cables, I have a little bit of peace.

Most importantly for me though it must be comfortable. I sometimes write up to six hours a day so my chair just has to be ergonomically designed. It has to hug my back and support my neck but not be so luxurious that I fall asleep. Secondly I need to be able to shut the door. There is nothing worse than being interrupted when you are mid-flow. Some people don’t understand this and think you are being rude. I go one step further sometimes and stick a do not disturb sign on the door.

Thirdly, despite being so in touch with my social media responsibilities, I turn them all off. The cell phone too. Don’t expect irreverent Facebook or Twitter comments whilst I am thumping the keys. It just doesn’t happen. If I am concentrating on other things then it shows in my writing.

Really this extends to nearly everything associated with the writing process. Don’t get distracted. I can procrastinate with the best of them. I think every writer is capable of that. I think I have attempted chores never previously started by man whilst in the midst of a deadline. All because I had something to challenge me other than a paragraph.

Lastly I write with a musical accompaniment but I try to match the music to the piece I am writing. Music can really affect the words that flutter onto the page. There is no point listening to some hapless pop tune whilst writing a piece that is dark and foreboding. It just doesn’t help. To accomplish this I try to plain out what I am writing that day and match the music accordingly.
Because music plays such an important part in my writing process I have to have the sound system to match. Consequently my music can be heard in the next town as clear as a bell. People know when I am writing because the music is cranking!

At the end of the day though everyone writes differently but I would say feeling comfortable in that writing space is essential. If you feel that you write at your best whilst on top of Mount Everest being stalked by a Yeti, I say climb that peak. Just remember to take some batteries for the lap top.

    King of Sunday Morning

The King of Sunday Morning is a geezer. Not in the traditional sense of the word as in old man. This geezer is a face, a wannabe, a top notch bloke. He is the greatest DJ that never was. He should have been. Could have been. Would have been. Now becoming a has-been.

Tray McCarthy was born into privilege but with the genetic coding of London’s violent East End. Having broken the underworld’s sacred honour code, it is only his family’s gangland connections that save him. But in return for his life, he must deny that which he has ever known or ever will be and runs to Australia where he is forced to live an inconsequential life.

But trouble never strays far from Tray McCarthy and eventually his past and present collide to put everyone he has ever loved in danger. He must now make a stand and fight against those that are set to destroy him and play their game according to his rules.

Set against the subterfuge and violence of the international drugs trade, The King of Sunday Morning is the tale of what can go wrong when you make bad decisions. Tray McCarthy has made some of the worst. He must now save those he holds dear but in the process gets trapped deeper and deeper into a world where he doesn’t belong.

Inside the Mind of the Author

Want a sneak peek into my mind? Well, when I’m writing it’s dark and twisted and full of the tortures that I put my characters through before giving them a Happy Ever After.

The moment I pressed publish the nerves crippled me. I let so-so reviews crush me and forgot that a lot of people loved my work and not to focus on the ones who didn’t.

It’s a total mind game—you have to have complete faith in what you’re doing is your dream as it isn’t a quick few hours a day profession. Nope, writing is fulltime, 24-7 job and it better be a passion as if it isn’t, it won’t last.

I found the moment I published my work load tripled with responding to fan mail and keeping up my other commitments, all while trying to write as much as I did before.

But no matter how hard writing is… it’s the best career of my life and I wouldn’t do anything else.

Dora Machado Shares Top 10 Reasons Why She Loves Her #Writing Gig @DoraMachado #AmReading

Top Ten Reasons Why I Love My Writing Gig
    By Dora Machado
People are always asking me why I write. The truest answer has something to do with the fact that I can't stop writing. But I love what I do, and just in case the benefits of my chosen profession aren't obvious to the rest of the world, here are the top ten reasons why I absolutely love my writing gig:
    1. My daily commute entails a thirty-second shuffle from bed to desk.
    2. It's nine p.m. to five a.m. and I like it that way.
    3. My supervisor is a cat.
    4. I can spend hours surfing the Internet, learning about ancient curses, medieval remedies, magical spells, curse givers and mythological goddesses, and nobody gives me grief about it.
    5. The water cooler is out back. If I really need cooling, I swim in it.
    6. I get to daydream and that's okay. My third grade teacher was so wrong about daydreaming!
    7. Business casual = yoga pants. Casual Friday may occasionally involve flannel pajamas.
    8. I have to read a lot to write a lot. Well, if someone must make the tough sacrifices….
    9. During work hours, I live in my own world. Literally.
    10. I get to share my work, life and passion with amazing readers like you.

"Delightful story with engaging characters" ... The Forgotten Child by @LEckhart #excerpt #romance

Today’s the day. When he comes down, I’ll say it. Her gut twisted, and she knew now it was nothing more than fear of the unknown. She couldn’t wait anymore; it had to be today. It was past time and she knew she’d ignored this decision for too long. The signs were all around her—they had been for months. Now, with no chance to think it to death or get cold feet, the floor squeaked as his heavy footsteps thumped down the hall toward her. Her skin chilled and she had a buzzing sensation in her ears, as if the floor were about to drop out from beneath her feet. Bob, her husband of twelve years, shuffled into the kitchen past her as she leaned against the counter. What made it worse was the way he looked away, as if to dismiss her, a woman of no importance.
“It’s over between us.” Wow, she said it. Her courage wavered, but she crossed her arms over her small breasts and stood her ground, feeling enormous in the bulky robe even though she kept her body slim with womanly curves.
Bob turned and, for the first time in months, he really looked at her. His dirty blond hair was gelled and impeccably groomed. His pale face flushed and his icy blue eyes appeared so dull and tiny in his round face. His body was ordinary, average height and build—a man who wouldn’t stand out in a crowd. She felt nothing for him, just a hardness; whatever love had been was now long dead and gone.
Time stretched out painfully; it took an eternity to pump the blood through her body, roaring louder and louder in her ears between breaths. Bob turned away. He poured himself a cup of the coffee she’d freshly brewed, dismissing her again. He’d mastered that skill long ago, hammering her pride down a little further each and every day. No wonder it took an act of sheer courage for Emily to look strangers in the eye. Hadn’t her dad done it to her own mom?
“You know we haven’t had a marriage for a long time, Bob. There are no feelings left between us. We don’t communicate, and Katy’s picking up on the tension in this house.”
He dropped his mug on the counter, and fired off his delusion. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I think you’re the one with the problem. Katy’s fine if you’re not around.” His words stung, even though Emily knew it wasn’t true. Why didn’t she expect this? Because her mind didn’t play those kinds of games, that’s why.
“No, Katy is not fine. You’re always yelling at her. You won’t spend time with her. When you’re home, you sit in front of the TV 24/7. You do nothing to help me.”
Shouting, he stepped toward her, “You know what I think this is really about? Money! Anyway, it’s your fault we have no money!”

Emily Nelson, a courageous young mother, ends a loveless, bitter marriage and strikes out on her own. She answers an ad as a cook and live-in caregiver to a three-year-old boy on a local ranch. Ranch owner Brad Friessen hires and moves in Emily and her daughter. But Emily soon discovers something's seriously wrong with the boy, and the reclusive, difficult man who hired her can't see the behavior and how delayed his son is. So Emily researches until she stumbles across what she suspects are the soft signs of autism. Now she must tell him, give him hope, and help him come to terms with this neurological disorder--to take the necessary steps to get his child the help he needs.
As their lives become intertwined, their attraction is unavoidable--a connection sparks between them. But just as they're getting close, Brad's estranged wife, Crystal, returns after abandoning the family two years earlier. Among the shock and confusion is one disturbing question Brad can't shake: How does Crystal know so much of his personal business, the inner working of the ranch, and Emily's relationship with his son?
Crystal must've had a plan, as she somehow gains the upper hand, driving a wedge in the emotional bond forged between Brad, Emily, and the children. The primary focus for care and therapy of three-year-old Trevor is diverted. The lengths to which Crystal will go, the lies, the greed, just to keep what's hers, are nothing short of cold and calculating. Emily's forced out of the house. Brad fights to save his boy, to protect what's his, and struggles over his greatest sacrifice--Emily, and the haunting question: Has he lost her forever?
