Lucas Heath – Inside the Life / Mind of the Author @LucasHeathBooks

Inside the life/mind of the Author

by Lucas Heath

I’ve been writing since I was a little kid, though back then they were mostly the innocent-animal-character type of stories. My first real story was written when I was ten. It was called “The Power of the Stones” and revolved around magic bracelets that three youths discover. The bracelets are objects of a desperate search by a witch and wizard, putting the lives of the children in danger. It was a simple idea, but it was an awesome story for a ten-year-old!

My first full-length novel was written when I was eighteen. Was it any good? Well, the story was, but not my writing. If I ever consider publishing it, it would require a complete rewrite. As time has passed, I’ve continued my writing. Now looking back at previous works, they don’t seem as good as they once did. However, each new story improved upon the last, and that is promising!

There’s always a lot on my mind at any given time. If I’m thinking of a future book, an entire timeline of events is juggled in my head before I start to write. My ideas are seldom on paper until I’m ready. As there are about twenty different book ideas swimming in my head right now, I’m sure I’ll never have any shortage of ideas.

I’ll admit that I am a very picky reader. If the story doesn’t catch my interest right away, then I won’t continue reading – well, unless I bought the book, because then I feel obligated to get my money’s worth.

Much of my inspiration for writing comes from my favorite author, Ted Dekker. Ted’s stories are set in another world and draw me in such a way that I feel like I’m actually part of the story. With every turn of the page, I experience emotions of peace, pain, joy, passion or sadness, as well as the doom or glory of the written environment. I desire to write books that readers don’t want to put down as, like me, they are drawn in to a new world and relish their escape from reality.

There is more to me than what can be summed up in a little post, but this provides you with a glimpse. Want to know more about me? Read my stories; they say a lot.
